A complete solution for the education enterprise.
Every day thousands of institutions use Moodle, the industry-leading open source LMS, to power innovative online programs while eliminating costly software license fees. But adopting open source presents administrators and IT staff with a unique set of challenges, including testing and rolling out frequent patches and updates, managing an appropriate infrastructure, and providing technical and software support to different constituencies.
But what if your open source LMS was professionally managed?
Loom does just that, combining the innovation of open source with the security and reliability of world class services and support. By leveraging any combination of Loom’s available services—Loom LMS, Loom Network and Loom’s Professional Services—an institution of any size can reap the benefits of open source without also taking on the additional internal staffing costs and ongoing risks.
Loom LMS
Based on Moodle, Loom LMS provides a complete suite of features that equal or surpass other commercial and open source learning management systems, including communication tools, activitiesand assessments, productivity tools, and compliance with instructional standards.
Moodle was originally developed by Australian scholar Martin Dougiamas as part of his doctoral dissertation, and is a PHP based learning management system designed to support a social constructivist educational framework. As an Open Source Initiative certified LMS, Moodle is supported by a growing international community of educators and open source developers who are constantly working tocreate and integrate new and innovative features. Loom draws from this community to consistentlybring you the latest and only most reliable plug-ins and modules that further extend Moodle’s core LMS functionality.
Currently Loom uses Moodle version 1.9. Although we have been carefully following Moodle’s newreleases, the much anticipated Moodle 2.0 was not up to the very high standards we hold for our clientsand a decision was made not to upgrade right away. A greatly improved Moodle 2.1 was released fortesting in June 2011, to which Loom is expecting to move in Spring 2012.
